  • Can anyone tell me why this mare color tested as bay when she’s hom brown? Thank you!

  • It's a special event. All horses will have black genes, no matter what the herd helper says.
  • Because brown is a phenotype not a genotype. She looks bay not brown.

  • Horses that are homozygous brown need at least one sooty for the color (and color name) to show as different from regular bay.
    Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

  • Homozygous browns are lighter than heterozygous browns, so unless they have sty and/or DP they are bay
