at what age is it no longer profitable to geld?
-
i have some older horses who i do not breed, but they are intact.
Is there an age at which it no longer helps them gain points if they are gelded?
-
My understanding is, intact horses gain fewer training points each week than altered ones. Once an intact horse is leveled off, altering doesn’t appear to impact their growth in the show pen. Those horses have already hit their “plateau” phase and are gaining mimimal to no points, regardless. Beside that, in my experience, altering at any age when still in training has benefit to the horse’s show ability.Thanked by 1Fiddler
