Aw crap! :( I was informed that they wouldn't disappear if they had descendants so I scrambled to find matches to ensure I'd still have them for this breeding season and made a list. I was afraid this would happen and it looks like it did anyway. What did I get wrong?

This is the list of straws/eggs that have a least one foal on the ground but still got erased:

Did they have an expiration date set? If they were straws you bought, the seller can set a number of months for expiration at time of sale:

No, I think it was a bug. I too lost straws and eggs from horses with living descendants, where all horses in question was bred by me. The countdown did not disappear once it was set, even though I bred with the straws and eggs to prevent them from being deleted.

In my case, I did not loose anything that I will miss greatly

Countdowns never disappear. This is not a bug. Once the straws and eggs are set to expire they expire. You can't make them not expire by just using one or two the straws.

If a horse is deceased and has no living foals all remaining straws and eggs go on a 5-year countdown. Horses that have any living foals never start a countdown in the first place. There is no stopping it after the fact.

The game does tell you wich straws/eggs are expiring and warns you that you have ones that are expiring.

They were straws from my deceased lines, I pulled them myself a while ago before I had to take a hiatus.

So it's just bad luck that I came back to the game at an inopportune time to not be able to use them all. :( I only found out about the new expiration a couple days before breeding season ended via a Facebook post. I misunderstood the "The only straws or eggs that are expiring are from horses who are dead and have no living offspring at all." I thought if I could make a few embryos with poor matches this season, I could finish off the rest this season with more ideal matches. Everything I lost will be sorely missed as I either haven't been able to get superior/intact foals out of them and/or the lines cost real life money and were tailored to be exactly what I wanted to breed for. I tried super hard to get it finished in time.

I have a lot more work to do to save the rest from extinction! XD
