Riding Horse from Warmblood
-
Hi! I bred this little guy below, his dam is a regular warmblood down the line whereas his sire is a warmblood as well. But the grand sire is a national light riding horse. I was surprised when the foal came out light RH since sire is not. Plus the sire has another foal who is warmblood. So going forward when breeding this sire, will babies be random? Sometimes warmblood sometimes light riding horse?
Thank you!

The sire is on the lighter end of Warmbloods. Foals can range lighter or heavier than the parents. Could possibly pair that sire with a heavier mare to have more consistent warmblood foals, but you may have the occasional light pop up still. :DThanked by 1paintedlytening

Dam is also on the lighter side. Both parents contribute to size.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I have an entire line of horses that I started after Ammit introduced light, medium and heavy bone. Before that all horses were designated either Warmblood or Sport Pony and had exactly the same artwork outline. I liked the look of the heavy horses but was not so keen on the light ones, and prefer taller horses, so I started my Challenge Herd. I created a ton of light boned pony sized horses and bred them together only keeping the heavier taller horses. After over three real life years I achieved my first Draft horse. :)

If you look on his pedigree you'll see the progression of size through the generations. Although I achieved my goal, I haven't been able to stop, and I'm still breeding my herd. My current heaviest horse in the line has a bone weight of 2.86 and a height of 15.3 -
Thank you all! What do you guys exactly mean by the sire and dam being on the "light side" of warmbloods? Where do I find that information, is that the bone? Is there a chart I can find that shows what number would equal lighter or opposite?
-
Yup, that would be the Bone.
This was found on the FAQ page. :)
Light horses/Riding Horses have bone size ranging from .5 inches to 1.49 inches
Warmbloods have bone size ranging from 1.5 inches to 2.49 inches
Draft horses have bone size ranging from 2.5 inches to 3.5 inches
