Understanding Futurity Lock
  • Hi! Can someone explain futurity lock to me? I understand we have to use our mares with another players stallion, however once I did all the testing (genetic, performance, strict breeding) it removed the futurity lock option. So does that mean we don't "have" to do any testing? I guess perhaps our futurity locked horses aren't going to be breeders so we should just spay/geld them anyways?

Other than that, what exactly is the point of futurity locking? Are there extra benefits/awards?

    Thank you!
  • Testing does not remove the furtirty lock. Most likely they never had it in the first place because the era was wrong. Can you link the foals?

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • I'm still learning about futurities myself, but this is an except from the Breeders Club page for the Stallion Futurities that might help:

-Stallion Futurities highlight the efforts of members to promote their stallions to other players.
-To qualify for the futurity a stallion must have at least 10 offspring bred and owned by players other than the owner of the stallion.
-Offspring can not be owned or bred by anyone who has ever owned the stallion.
-It is against the rules to use your own secondary account to qualify your stallion. It must be another player.
-If you accidentally qualify your own stallion, sell the stud to your secondary account and back again to remove those foals from the futurity.
-Those offspring must be the same era as the stallion, and must be five years of age or less.
-The total lifetime number of points won by the top ten offspring of each qualified stallion count towards his futurity standings.
-The number shown next to the stallion name is the sum of the lifetime points earned by his top 10 offspring.
-Stallions do not need to be entered in era clubs to qualify for the futurity.

There are prizes, so that's the benefit of joining futurities:
Champion: 8 GMTs to the stallion owner, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 10 best foals.
Reserve Champion: 6 GMTs, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 10 best foals.
Third Place: 4 GMTs, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 8 best foals.
Fourth Place: 1 GMTs, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 6 best foals.
Fifth Place: 1 GMT, and 1 GMT to the owner of each of his 4 best foals.
    Ribbons to 10th place.

  • The purpose of futurity locking is to avoid accidentally selling futurity foals back to the game. Any futurity locked foal, if sent to auction, will either be purchased by another player or remain in your barn after the auction ends. Any horse that isn't futurity locked, if sent to auction for their auto-fill price, can be deleted from the game if they aren't purchased by another account.

Essentially, futurity locking serves as a guarantee for stallion owners that the foals produced to qualify their stallion(s) will remain a part of their qualifying offspring until those foals age out(turn 6).

  • They do not. Only the foals need to be the same era. Mares can be the same or any higher era.
