License for Ice 1
  • Do I need to keep a foundation such as the Shaved Ice and the other non-license Ices to keep the licenses for those ices?

    Tongue Twister lol.
  • Ice 1 doesn't require a license to own.

  • Will they breed without owning a foundation, then?
  • Yes! I think Ice 5 is the same way.

  • Thank you. My giftee gave me 3 Ice horse foundations, so I wanted to be sure what I should or should not do.
  • You don't need to keep a foundation to keep a license either; the only time it's an issue is if you're gifting a foundation horse. Otherwise you keep the license forever

  • This one has both ice on the same side of the slash ( -/I ) does that make it Hom? or do they have to be on opposite sides? Or all 4?

  • The orange number tells you what Ice gene it is. The above linked horse is Heterozygous for Ice 1 on both strands of DNA. She would have to have two copies on the same strand (1/1) to be Homozygous for the gene.

    WS 3 Color Me Surprised

These two horses have non-licensed Ice genes in their DNA. Luminescent Moon is Heterozygous for Ice 1 and Ice 5, while Color Me Surprised is Heterozygous for Ice 1 and Ice 8.
The three horses in your search link are each only Heterozygous for Ice 1. The Ice is just expressing in a slightly different pattern on each horse. It doesn't always look the same on every Ice 1 horse. The Ice 1 gene typically creates ice crystal-like areas in a frame pattern, much like the color on a Frame horse. Sometimes the ice frame is patchy, sometimes it's more solid. It's sort of like the ice crystals are spreading inward from the horse's extremities.

  • Mack, thank you for your explanation and the pics of the horses.

  • No problem! I do have to correct myself though. The Ice 1 gene shows as an I, not a 1. However, all other Ice genes are numbered in the DNA strands, so Ice 1 is still easily distinguishable.
