Alright, my liver nerds. Here’s another het or hom DP question: liver red Dun edition! What do you think?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say hom. I can't see the dun bands which is what I normally go by and he has S+ which gives his coat that lovely color. I'd say the best way to know is trying to add DP in the lab. If he has it it won't take the GMT token, if he doesn't it only uses one, but then you'll know for sure.

Ugh, Liver duns are hard for me because of the varying shades of dun. I sometimes use the mane/tail color to help as the hom dp are near black. However, flaxen covers that up too.

He's a toughy! He falls right between the tail colors of my hom & het livers. I would also lean towards hom as he's closer to them than the hets.

I tend to look at the areas unaffected by dun - mane/tail and primitive markings - shoulder barring, lower legs, muzzle. His white is quite well placed to cover any primitive markings. There might be a thin dark dorsal stripe?

@ztcreek, I rerolled him several times to see if it would be easier to spot, but that splash is just in the way! :))

this is a hom DP mare with s+, dun splash and kitM and she's lighter than him! She has brindle as well that may be throwing it off

some of her hom DP babies with similar genetics. i'd say yours is hom DP as well, going by these
