Straws vs. Live Cover
-
I understand that pasture breeding with the full 30 day bonus is the best/safest way to breed, but is there actually any difference in one on one breeding or live cover and using straws or embryos?
-
Not to my knowledge no, it's all hand breeding to me so I don't think there would be any difference between them in quality. I guess we'll find out.
@SandyCreekAcres -
Using the full pasture bonus gives the best chance of getting intact foals, but some will still be neutered, of course.
The main difference is the cost. Breeding your own mares to your own stallions by hand costs the 1000 hb. vet fee, and you have to have enough to cover whatever stud fee you set for the stallion, although that money never leaves your own account.
-
But there’s not really a statistical difference in gettin intact foal or in their quality between non pasture breeding and straws? Just the cost difference
-
No, if you just put them in the pasture and breed without the full 30 days. The only statistical difference occurs when you wait the 30 days.Player ID #239177. Breeding Rosales Warmblood Horses. Liver, Chocolate, KitM, Phantom Autumn.

Interesting :) so a follow up question would them be why are live covers generally more expensive than straws? Because it takes up one of those 1/50 spots allowable from the stud?
-
I think breeding your own mares with your own stallions is cheaper than using straws. You not only have to pull the straw (500$) then you have to implant it and that means "There is a 3000 dollar vet bill involved in producing an AI created foal."
I think just breeding to your own stallions is much cheaper than using a straw.
Now, breeding to OTHERS stallions can involve a Breeding Fee.Player ID #239177. Breeding Rosales Warmblood Horses. Liver, Chocolate, KitM, Phantom Autumn.
