Papering and such food for thought
-
I, for one, like the new papering system and I like the fact that a lot of RS paper yellow and C (perfect). At first it seems discouraging, but it encourages people to look more into their long term breeding goals. We have the opportunity to either boost horses, or genetically modify to get the colors we want. Most people cannot afford to spend millions modifying every single pony they create, and most people are looking to breed for something special... not just your plain chestnuts and bays. In RL, most performance horses are the plain colors, because they're bred for performance, not color. Hence why you don't see the high ratio of colored GP jumpers, for example as you do bays, chestnuts and grays. Those colored WB sporthorses who either compete at the highest level, or produce babies who do are relatively few and far between. Stand those stallions at stud, and you'll get a lot of owners looking for a flashy baby and either breed to a lower quality colored WB mare, or breed to a higher quality, more plain mare with more performance potential. Color is not what I would personally breed for, but that's fine if you're planning to keep the baby for a show horse, because most amateurs are not looking to ride/keep a stallion, and most ammys are not planning on competing in the GP level.
It drives me crazy when people think they can breed to a really nice, proven stallion with a less than mediocre mare and get a discounted, international level superstar. Of course it can happen, but it's unlikely with the cost of breeding for amateurs to figure out what works. You do see it with TBs in the racing industry, because they're so young, and they are retired relatively early.
The real "special" RS are the one who have the extra "special" gene and who are exceptional producers. There is a reason most of the Ex Perfect creates are plain colors. There are two options to get the "best of the best" (genes and boosts) for foundations are they are in the lab...
Makes sense to encourage breeding with like quality, and yeah you'll send up with gelds and spays, but it seems odds that at some point you'll might get a paper upgrade from those foundations, and if not you'll have more show ponies, and from there you can decide if you want to bother keeping those foundations intact, or keep playing around with different foundation crosses to see if you can get the paper upgrade.
That being said, and as many have said before, this game rewards patience and there is nothing wasted with extra show ponies. -
This game is all about the show ponies.
And being patient.
I can't even add anything! :D -
The ultimate goal of breeding is to make good show/performance horses, and ammy friendly brains :)
